Fire on 4th floor of RERC bldg, docus gutted

Jaipur: A fire broke out Friday on the fourth floor of the Rajasthan Electricity Regulatory Commission (RERC) building on Sahakar Marg.Officials said smoke began to billow from a room used to store records, triggering an evacuation as staff rushed out of the building. Fire brigade teams reached within minutes and contained the blaze after nearly 45 minutes of operation.Police and officials said the fire was suspected to have been caused by a short circuit.Furniture, including chairs in the hall, was also damaged.Sources said the fourth floor had truckloads of documents related to the RajWest power plant in Barmer. The operator of the power plant and the state govt were locked in a legal battle over power rates for many years.Sources said some files were destroyed, but the identification of the files is yet to be ascertained.An alarm system installed in the building was triggered as the fire broke out, alerting officials who rushed to the floor. Windows were opened to vent dense smoke, and additional outlets were used to clear the area.Following the incident, the remaining records were shifted to another location. Officials said the situation was brought under control quickly, with no injuries reported.
