New Delhi: Ahead of the kanwar yatra, Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has directed all its zones to ensure that no illegal or unlicensed meat shop operates along the routes or near kanwariyas’ camps. Action will also be taken against licensed meat shops found violating licence conditions. The directions came as kanwar camps are going to function at 308 sites across Delhi during the annual yatra from July 30 to Aug 11. In an office memorandum issued Monday, additional commissioner Arun Kumar Mishra instructed all zonal deputy commissioners to complete civic preparations before the yatra begins. The order stated, “While various departments were given roles, MCD was directed to remove all encroachments from kanwar camp sites well before the start of the yatra.” Zonal teams have already been provided with details of the identified locations. Camps can also be set up at additional locations, if required, the order added.MCD has also instructed all zones to ensure intensive cleaning, trimming of bushes and regular garbage collection at the camps and surrounding areas. Sanitation workers and machinery will be deployed in three shifts to maintain cleanliness throughout the event, said officials. The order mandated regular fogging before and during the yatra to prevent waterborne and mosquito-borne diseases. Mobile dispensaries will be stationed at large kanwar camps. All zonal deputy commissioners have been directed to coordinate with the respective district magistrates, who have been designated as nodal officers for issuing no-objection certificates for kanwar camps and overseeing the arrangements.
