Faridabad: A 20-year-old man from Uttar Pradesh died after falling into the Yamuna while allegedly trying to film a selfie video from the railing of Manjhawali bridge on July 24. His body was recovered on Sunday after a three-day search by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and police.The deceased, Titu, a resident of Sihawali village in Sambhal district, had come to Faridabad to visit relatives in Nacholi. Police said he went to the bridge with a relative around 7pm on July 24 after riding there on a motorcycle.According to police, Titu climbed onto the nearly four-foot-high railing to shoot a selfie video with the Yamuna in the background. While trying to adjust his position for a better angle, he lost his balance and fell into the river.

A team from Tigaon police station and the SDRF were immediately deployed for the search. Rescue teams searched several stretches of the Yamuna for two days but failed to locate him.On Sunday, the third day of the operation, Titu’s body was found lodged in bushes along the riverbank near Chandpur village, several kilometres downstream from the spot where he had fallen. The SDRF team recovered the body and sent it to the Civil Hospital mortuary for postmortem examination.Police said a preliminary investigation indicated that the death was accidental. The victim’s family has been informed, and the body will be handed over to them after the postmortem.Police said visitors are regularly warned against climbing onto bridge railings and barriers, particularly during the monsoon. Preventive measures have also been taken to restrict access to vulnerable stretches leading towards the river, officials said.
