Ajmer: A retired govt employee lodged an FIR at the cyber police station in Ajmer Sunday after he was allegedly duped of Rs 16.54 lakh by cyber fraudsters who lured him with the promise of a senior citizen card before gaining access to his bank account.According to police, the 65-year-old complainant, who lives with his wife, received a call from a person claiming to facilitate a senior citizen card. The caller highlighted benefits such as travel concessions and treatment at private hospitals before asking the victim to download an app sent via WhatsApp.After downloading the app, the victim received an OTP. The caller asked him to share it, claiming it was required to process the senior citizen card application.

Believing the claim, the victim disclosed the OTP.On Saturday night, the victim received an SMS from his bank stating that his fixed deposit was prematurely closed and Rs 16,53,900 was transferred from his account. Initially suspecting it to be an error, he checked his online banking account on Sunday morning and found that the amount was indeed withdrawn.Head constable Sumit Kumar said police have registered a case and are tracing the money trail to identify the fraudsters.
