Southern Army Commander meets Maharashtra CM, governor; discusses civil-military synergy

Pune: Southern Army Commander Lt Gen Rajesh Pushkar, discussed strengthening civil-military coordination, disaster response, and the welfare of veterans with Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Governor Jishnu Dev Varma in Mumbai on Friday in separate meetings.During his meeting with Chief Minister Fadnavis, Lt Gen Pushkar said, “We need to prepare to assist civil authorities during internal security contingencies and natural disasters. There needs to be an improved coordination for Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) operations and measures for the welfare of the state’s veteran community.”In his meeting with Governor Jishnu Dev Varma, the Southern Army Commander underscored the same, and said, “We deliberated on strengthening military-civil fusion, expanding welfare initiatives for veterans and Veer Naris, and enhancing cooperation in humanitarian assistance and disaster response.

“The Army has made continued efforts to strengthen coordination with the Maharashtra government and constitutional authorities to ensure effective responses during emergencies,” said the officials.Maharashtra, which hosts the Southern Command headquarters in Pune and a large population of serving and retired defence personnel, has frequently relied on Army assistance during floods and other disasters.
