Ahmedabad: A 31-year-old Narol resident has filed an FIR with Navrangpura police alleging that a foreign placement and education consultancy cheated him by promising a visa and a guaranteed job in Russia. According to the FIR registered on Friday, the complainant said he contacted the consultancy through a social media page and was promised a visa for Moscow along with a job that would pay him between Rs 90,000 and Rs 1.2 lakh per month.He later visited the consultancy’s office in Navrangpura, where he was allegedly assured that he would be sent to Russia and provided legal employment. The consultant claimed the firm had contracts with restaurants and cafes in Moscow and would arrange a legal job for him, the FIR stated.

The complainant alleged that the consultancy demanded Rs 3.7 lakh and that he paid Rs 3,19,999 through multiple UPI and IMPS transactions into accounts linked to the accused and the firm.A three-month student visa was arranged, after which he travelled from Delhi to Moscow in May. The complainant said he was admitted to a university-linked study centre and was told that all required documents would be ready within 20 days, after which he would get a job. He alleged that between May and June 2026, he was given different contact numbers, but no job materialised.The FIR said inquiries at the Indian embassy in Moscow and the study centre revealed that his admission was for a Russian language course and that working on that visa would be illegal.The complainant said he sought a refund, but the money was not returned. The FIR also mentions two other individuals who allegedly paid similar amounts to the consultancy but did not receive legal jobs. After returning to India in June 2026, he filed a complaint of criminal breach of trust.
