Gorakhpur: The AIIMS, Gorakhpur has achieved a major academic milestone with its first batch of MD/MS postgraduate students successfully clearing their final examinations, recording a 100% pass rate.A total of 24 postgraduate students appeared for the inaugural MD/MS final examinations held in July 2026, and all qualified, marking a significant step in AIIMS Gorakhpur’s evolution as a full-fledged centre for medical education, research and healthcare.The students had joined the institute in July 2023 after being selected through the Institute of National Importance Combined Entrance Test (INI-CET). Over the past three years, they underwent specialist training in 12 disciplines, including general medicine, general surgery, obstetrics and gynaecology, orthopaedics, paediatrics, anaesthesiology, psychiatry, community medicine, radiotherapy, dermatology and venereology, ENT, and microbiology.

Besides clinical training, the students carried out research projects using advanced laboratory facilities and modern medical equipment under the supervision of faculty members. Each postgraduate scholar submitted a thesis that was evaluated by experts from Institutes of National Importance across the country. All the theses were approved, reflecting the institute’s growing academic and research standards.The final examinations were conducted with the participation of external examiners and representatives from leading institutions, including SGPGI Lucknow, PGIMS Rohtak, AIIMS Jodhpur, AIIMS Bhopal, AIIMS Nagpur, AIIMS Patna, AFMC Pune, UCMS Delhi and IMS-BHU Varanasi.During their visit, the examiners reviewed the institute’s academic and clinical infrastructure, laboratories, research facilities and postgraduate training systems across departments. They praised the modern infrastructure, academic environment, patient-centric clinical training and research activities. According to the institute, the successful graduation of its first postgraduate batch marks the beginning of a new chapter in AIIMS Gorakhpur’s academic journey.
