Shimla: Himachal Pradesh’s first island tourism project at Jeori Pattan in Govind Sagar Lake in Bilaspur district is expected to open for tourists within the next month, deputy commissioner Rahul Kumar announced on Saturday.During a review meeting of the society for tourism, sports, trade and employment generation, the DC said that the project aimed to develop the islands of Govind Sagar Lake into world-class eco-tourism and adventure destinations.Visitors will enjoy nature-based accommodation, traditional Himachali cuisine, cultural evenings featuring folk music and dance, and activities such as water sports, aero sports, fishing, local sightseeing and pre-wedding photography, he said,Dedicated outlets will also be set up for self-help groups, artisans and local entrepreneurs to showcase handicrafts, agricultural produce and traditional products, providing sustainable livelihood opportunities while strengthening the rural economy, said the DC.

He further stated that the islands of Jeori Pattan, Dhararsani and Bholu were being developed on the lines of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, making it the first initiative of its kind in Himachal Pradesh.Promoting eco-tourism, water sports and adventure tourism is a priority of the state govt. Bilaspur’s scenic landscape and proximity to Chandigarh make it an ideal year-round tourist destination, especially during the monsoon, said the DC.The meeting also reviewed proposed water sports projects in Mandi-Bharari, Kol Dam and Nakrana.
