Three of an interstate vehicle theft gang held

Noida: Police arrested three members of an interstate vehicle theft gang on Pusa Road Friday and recovered 10 two-wheelers, a .315-bore pistol and a live cartridge.The three accused — Vikas Kumar, Rohit and Kuldeep — allegedly operated in an organised manner across Delhi-NCR. Additional DCP (Noida) Manisha Singh said, “They first surveyed malls, hospitals, metro stations, markets and residential colonies to identify unattended motorcycles. After the theft, the stolen motorcycles were shifted to another place until a viable buyer was found.”The gang carried a pistol to scare away anyone who tried to stop them, enabling them to escape if confronted.Police recovered nine motorcycles and a scooter from the bushes in Yamuna floodplain of Sector 13. “While one motorcycle was stolen from Sector 58 police station area, other thefts were from Amar Colony in Delhi and Ghazipur police station area,” the DCP said.The gang also erased the vehicle identification number of some of the motorcycles to make identification difficult.Police have registered a case under Sections 317(2), (5) and (4) (stolen property) and 345(3) (property mark) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Section 3/25 of the Arms Act at the Sector 126 police station.According to police records, the three had criminal cases registered against them previously for robbery, possession of stolen property and illegal arms.Police are investigating the gang’s possible involvement in other vehicle thefts across the region.
