New Delhi: Intensifying investigation into the violence during the July 20 Parliament march, Delhi Police has about 2,500 people under the scanner to identify those involved in the clashes.Cops suspect that 100 to 200 protesters played a key role in leading groups, pelting stones at security personnel and creating disorder during the march. Video footage, photographs, drone visuals and CCTV recordings are under scrutiny to ascertain the identities of those present during the violence.“Since July 20, around 2,000 individuals with criminal backgrounds have been identified at or near the protest site. Prior to July 20, nearly 250 people with criminal antecedents had visited the site,” sources said.New CCTV footage has surfaced purportedly showing masked protesters, allegedly instigating the crowd to breach police barricades. Later, people were seen jumping barricades and pushing them down and then running forward. Another video from the Rajiv Chowk area allegedly shows agitators pelting stones at security personnel and vandalising police vehicles.On Friday, a history sheeter was caught with a gunny bag full of stones near the protest site. He was intercepted during security checks at Sansad Marg. Police said the group accompanying him later got into a scuffle among themselves. “The man detained has been found to have 12-13 criminal cases against him,” a senior police officer said. Videos shared by the police show members of the group arguing before assaulting one another.So far, Delhi Police has registered 15 FIRs in connection with the incidents reported during and after the protest. Cops are mulling adding a criminal conspiracy section in one more FIR.All speeches delivered from the protest site after Sonam Wangchuk was taken to hospital will be examined to check whether any remarks were inflammatory, provocative or capable of inciting violence, sources said.Meanwhile, fresh details have emerged of two more police personnel from the Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations (IFSO) unit who were injured during Wednesday’s violence in Connaught Place. The injured cops include head constable Rahul, who sustained a stab injury, and constable Deepak, who suffered severe head injuries and remains hospitalised. DCP (IFSO) Vinit Kumar said the two cops were injured while accompanying him and his team in rescuing ACP Vivek Bhagat, who was being repeatedly assaulted by violent agitators during the clashes.
