Sajni murder: Victim’s father dies before verdict

Ahmedabad: O K Krishnan, who spent more than two decades fighting for justice in his daughter Sajni Nair’s killing, died after brief illness in Ahmedabad on Friday. He was 89.A native of Pottor in Kerala’s Thrissur district, Krishnan lived in Ahmedabad for several decades. He was among the founding members of the Shree Narayana Cultural Mission and one of the oldest members of the Ahmedabad Kerala Samajam.His daughter, Sajni, was allegedly murdered by her husband, Tarun Jinaraj, at their Bopal residence on Feb 14, 2003. Jinaraj initially claimed that burglars had killed her, but investigators suspected foul play. He disappeared soon after the incident, allegedly assumed a new identity and remained absconding for nearly 15 years before being arrested in Bengaluru in 2018.Krishnan, along with his son-in-law P K Shashidharan, continued to pursue the case over the years, attending court proceedings and seeking justice for Sajni. “His last wish was to see Jinaraj convicted, but it remained unfulfilled,” Shashidharan said.Krishnan is survived by his wife Ramani, daughter Rajni and son Sudhir. His last rites were performed at the VS Crematorium in Ahmedabad.
