Woman teacher found dead in Kharagpur lodge, companion critical
According to police sources, the deceased was identified as Shubhangi Maheshwari

Kharagpur: Body of a 31-year-old woman teacher from a Kendriya Vidyalaya was recovered from a lodge in Golbazar area of Kharagpur city on Thursday night. Her male companion was rescued from the scene in an unconscious state and rushed to Kharagpur Sub-Divisional Hospital, where his condition remains critical.According to police sources, the deceased was identified as Shubhangi Maheshwari. Originally hailing from Uttar Pradesh, she was residing in Kharagpur with her husband, an engineer by profession. Her companion, identified as Amir Ali, also hails from Uttar Pradesh, and the two reportedly shared a long-standing acquaintance.The incident came to light after the teacher’s husband, unable to trace her since afternoon, approached Kharagpur Town Police Station. Under the direction of IC Kharagpur, a police team launched a search. Late at night, by tracking the mobile phone’s tower location, police traced the teacher to a lodge in Golbazar.Upon forcing entry, officers found both individuals lying unconscious inside their room. Police suspect that both may have consumed a poisonous substance. They were immediately rushed to Kharagpur Sub-Divisional Hospital, where doctors declared the teacher dead on arrival. Her male companion is currently in critical condition.“The young man rented the room in the morning. When the woman arrived later, her documents were submitted. We have no knowledge of what transpired inside the room. Police recovered the body and took over the matter,” said M Singh, owner of the lodge.Police have launched a full investigation into the incident to ascertain the exact circumstances leading to the tragedy.
