Varanasi: Banaras Hindu University (BHU) has constituted anti-ragging squads and monitoring cells for its main campus in Varanasi and the Rajiv Gandhi South Campus in Barkachha, Mirzapur, for the academic session 2026-27.The squads and monitoring cells have been formed in accordance with the UGC Regulations on Curbing the Menace of Ragging in Higher Educational Institutions, 2009.According to a BHU spokesperson, Prof Lalit Mohan Agarwal of the department of radiotherapy and radiation medicine, Institute of Medical Sciences, has been appointed chairperson of the anti-ragging squad for the main campus.Prof TD Singh of the department of medicinal chemistry, Faculty of Ayurveda, will serve as coordinator of the monitoring cell for the main campus.For the Rajiv Gandhi South Campus, Manoj Kumar Singh of the department of Kriya Sharir, Faculty of Ayurveda, has been appointed chairperson of the anti-ragging squad, while Santosh Marandi of the Faculty of Veterinary and Animal Sciences will serve as coordinator of the monitoring cell.The anti-ragging squads will have the authority to include any person as a special invitee for investigating or inquiring into specific cases, if required.The office of the chief proctor will provide full administrative support to the squads for conducting surprise inspections, inquiries and other necessary actions.
