Varanasi: Phoolpur police in Azamgarh district arrested a 40-year-old sorcerer on Wednesday night on charges of raping two girls, both sisters and attempting to rape the third. He had even threatened to use his occult powers and kill the girls if they complained to anyone. The accused, Mahfooz, resident of Gahni Khurd under Phoolpur police station, was booked after police received a written complaint on Wednesday. The girls alleged that the accused was visiting their house for past five years and raping them, threatening to kill them if they complained. On the day of the incident, he asked the girls’ parents to sit outside while he performed a ritual and attempted to rape one of the girls. When she raised an alarm, the family members rushed inside and caught him. A case has been registered under sections 65(1), 351(3), 352 and 333 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with sections 3/4(2) of the POCSO Act.
