Gandhinagar: Voting concluded without any major untoward incident for the Umreth assembly constituency byelection on Thursday, with 59.04% of the voters exercising their franchise.A statement by the office of the chief electoral officer (CEO) said that before voting, a mock poll was conducted on EVMs at each polling station. It was attended by polling agents appointed by the candidates. The Umreth assembly constituency includes a total of 46 villages from Umreth taluka, along with areas of Odh, Umreth and Boriyavi municipalities. A total of six candidates were in the fray for the election. There were 1,26,545 male voters, 1,19,072 female voters and 6 other voters, making a total of 2,45,623 voters. Polling was conducted at a total of 306 polling stations, with 68 in urban areas and 238 in rural areas. The office of the CEO said webcasting facilities were established to monitor all activities at polling stations. The statement said that considering the summer heat, facilities like ORS sachets and sheds were set up at all polling booths in the constituency. In addition, voter assistance booths were also set up to provide all necessary information to voters.
