Mohali: A bull was rescued from a nearly 25ft-deep underground water storage tank at an under-construction building in Sector 82, Mohali, after a four-hour operation carried out by members of the Gau Grass Seva Samiti Thursday.According to the organisation, its helpline received a call around 9am reporting that the animal had fallen into the tank during the night and was unable to climb out.A rescue team immediately rushed to the spot and, with the help of local residents, launched an operation to save the trapped bull. Using ropes and other equipment, volunteers managed to safely pull the animal out after nearly four hours of continuous effort.The bull was administered first aid at the site and was later released after being found free of any major injuries.Vijay Mahajan, founder member of the Gau Grass Seva Samiti, appealed to residents to report injured, abandoned or distressed cattle on the organisation’s helpline. He said that in critical cases, the committee deploys an ambulance and veterinary team to provide emergency treatment, while animals requiring long-term care are shifted to the Gau Hospital and Gaushala in Phase 1, Mohali.Mahajan said the organisation has rescued and treated nearly 4,000 cattle across the region over the past six years.He also urged builders, contractors and property owners to ensure that open pits, underground tanks and other hazardous structures at construction sites are properly covered or barricaded to prevent accidents involving animals and humans. He said such precautions are especially important near residential areas where stray cattle frequently roam.
