New Delhi: Delhi govt Wednesday said 88% of the construction work on the Karawal Nagar double-decker flyover project in northeast Delhi had been completed and a revised cost of Rs 291 crore had been approved, with the project targeted for completion by Dec.The revised estimate was cleared at the fifth Expenditure Finance Committee meeting chaired by chief minister Rekha Gupta. The project, being executed by Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, is being developed as the city’s first integrated double-decker structure, combining a flyover and a metro corridor in a single project.The 1.4km-long structure, for which an MoU was signed between PWD and DMRC on Feb 24, 2021, is being built between Yamuna Vihar and Bhajanpura metro stations at Karawal Nagar, Ghonda and Brijpuri junction (Mangal Pandey Marg) in northeast Delhi. Its original cost was Rs 220 crore.Gupta said that work was affected in 2023 as approvals required for certain components were not available. Govt said the stretch currently witnessed heavy traffic congestion and around 65-70% of the traffic would shift to the elevated structure, leaving the surface road largely for local traffic. It added that the project would provide a signal-free stretch from Gokulpuri to Signature Bridge via Khajuri Khas.
