Itanagar: The Upper Subansiri district administration has started supplying essential food commodities and medical supplies to the remote, flood-affected administrative circles of Nilling, Lingdam and Upper Giba by air after torrential rain disrupted road connectivity in the region.Heavy rainfall over the past few days caused major breaches along the Nyo and Jao rivers. A bridge over the Jao river was completely swept away by floodwaters, cutting off 22 villages in Upper Giba from the district headquarters.Road links to 20 villages in Nilling circle and Lingdam were also severed, making it impossible to transport essential supplies by road.The district administration, headed by the deputy commissioner, Tasso Gambo, and supported by MLA Taniya Soki, moved swiftly to requisition emergency helicopter services from the directorate of civil aviation. Special helicopter sorties were approved for July 22 and 23, with helicopters supplying rice, medicines and other relief materials from Daporijo to Nilling and Lingdam.District officials, in coordination with the civil supplies department, circle administrations and police, have put safety and security measures at helipads, adhering strictly to DGCA guidelines.Expressing gratitude to state authorities and emergency crews, the district administration confirmed that helicopter operations will continue until road connectivity is restored.
