Lucknow: Felix Brenner, a student of Heidelberg University in Germany, is at Lucknow University under the DAAD RISE Worldwide Scholarship, working on a research project focused on gravity and the universe. Explaining his work in simple terms, Brenner said he is studying how gravity behaves under different conditions and whether existing theories can fully account for what scientists observe in the cosmos.His internship is being guided by Prof MM Verma of the university’s physics department, known internationally for work in cosmology and gravity. Brenner is also the first German student to intern at Lucknow University, officials said.Describing India as a “new country, new culture”, Brenner said the experience has been academically enriching and personally transformative. He added that adapting to the summer heat without air conditioning has been challenging, but part of the learning process.Brenner also highlighted differences between higher education in Germany and India, saying German universities place more emphasis on independent study, while Indian institutions follow more structured, classroom-based schedules.Outside the lab, he has explored local culture and food, staying vegetarian and enjoying paneer, masoor dal kebabs and mangoes. He said he plans to visit Agra to see the Taj Mahal and travel to Varanasi.Physics department head Prof Onkar Prasad and vice chancellor Prof JP Saini said the internship reflects the department’s growing research profile.
