New Delhi: Sakshi (21), who was admitted to RML Hospital with serious injuries suffered during the police action at Jantar Mantar on July 20, has been taken off ventilator support.The woman, who is suspected to have fallen down during the stampede-like situation, is now able to breathe on her own.She is conscious, responding appropriately to commands, and has shown steady clinical improvement since treatment began, doctors at RML said.An MRI of her brain and spine has yielded a normal report. Hospital authorities said Sakshi’s condition has improved significantly in the last two days, though she remains under continuous monitoring.Sheikh Irshad, who suffered injuries from a tear gas shell fired by police to disperse the students, is also stable, but remains under observation at Lady Hardinge Medical College.He is likely to be in hospital for another two or three days. After that, doctors will take a call on when to discharge him.Another protester, Sahil, with injuries in his right eye, was referred from RML to AIIMS’ Dr Rajendra Prasad Centre for Ophthalmic Sciences. He was initially admitted to the red area in critical condition. He is now in the AIIMS trauma centre. Doctors Wednesday said Sahil was clinically stable.All the others brought to govt hospitals were discharged by Tuesday.
