Pune: A 60-year-old retired deputy general manager of an automobile company recently lost Rs 86 lakh in an online share trading fraud.A cybercrook, posing as a stock market analyst, contacted him last month through a social media app and promised high returns on investments in shares and IPOs through her company. The woman and her accomplices allegedly persuaded him to transfer money to multiple bank accounts before duping him.The retired officer approached the Pimpri Chinchwad cyber police station and lodged a complaint.An officer from the Pune cyber police said the woman contacted the complainant on June 10 and assured him of handsome profits on his stock market investments through her company. She also claimed that the company was registered with SEBI and shared a copy of its registration certificate with him.“The woman also shared a detailed investment plan with the complainant and gained his confidence,” the officer said.The officer said the complainant was then asked to download an investment app, following which the accused started collecting money from him through different bank accounts. Between June 17 and July 14, the complainant transferred Rs 86 lakh to multiple bank accounts.“When the complainant tried to withdraw his money, he was not allowed to do so. When he attempted to contact the woman, her cellphone was unreachable. He then realised he had been duped and approached the police,” the officer said.The officer added that the money was transferred from the complainant’s bank account to accounts in different parts of the country, including Silapathar in Dhemaji district of Assam, Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh, and Bijnor in Uttar Pradesh.“Our investigations are on,” the officer said.
