NEW DELHI: The Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) on Tuesday called off its proposed sit-in outside Delhi Police headquarters after claiming that all protesters detained following the ‘Sansad Chalo’ march had been released.The outfit had announced the protest alleging that hundreds of supporters were in custody and were being denied access to lawyers, a charge that Delhi Police denied.CJP had announced a dharna outside Delhi Police headquarters at 8 pm, alleging that hundreds of protesters had been detained and were not being allowed to meet lawyers.“Our lawyers have just told us that ALL the detainees have been released. The dharna outside Delhi Police HQ is therefore called off! EVERYONE IS REQUESTED TO MAINTAIN PEACE,” CJP spokesperson Saurav Das posted on X.Delhi Police, meanwhile, maintained that no one was under detention and urged people not to circulate unverified claims on social media.“Claims circulating on social media regarding persons being detained and denied access to lawyers are misleading and incorrect. It is clarified that no person is currently under detention. You are advised not to share or circulate unverified content,” Delhi Police said in a statement on X.Earlier in the day, Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) chief Sharad Pawar and MP Supriya Sule visited the protest site at Jantar Mantar, where the CJP has been continuing its agitation over the alleged NEET-UG paper leak.The NCP (SCP) has backed the demand for Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation.The CJP’s ‘Sansad Chalo’ march in the national capital on Monday had triggered clashes with police.Delhi Police claimed that more than 118 police personnel were injured in the violence, while over 60 protesters also sustained injuries.Police have registered five FIRs in connection with alleged violence, stone-pelting and vandalism, and are examining more than 250 videos to identify those involved in the incidents.Opposition leaders strongly criticised the police action, alleging that protesters were subjected to a lathi-charge and tear gas shelling.Meanwhile, Union health minister J P Nadda visited RML Hospital and met injured protesters.Nadda had also met a delegation of the Cockroach Janata Party on Monday, during which the group submitted its demands to the government.(With ANI inputs)
