36-year-old homemaker arrested for helping man steal from her neighbour in Mumbai

Mumbai: A 36-year-old homemaker from a Charkop housing society has been arrested after she tipped off an acquaintance and got him to loot her neighbour’s house. Police said the accused made a duplicate key to the neighbour’s house and stole gold jewellery worth Rs 34 lakh.On April 13, a 40-year-old woman approached the Charkop police station to lodge a complaint after a vault containing 240 gm of gold ornaments was stolen from her home. She told the police that the incident had occurred on the night of April 12. However, there were no signs of forced entry on the door. “The door was not broken down which meant that someone had accessed the house using a duplicate key,” said a police officer.Charkop police went through CCTV footage and carried out a technical analysis of cellphone tower dump data. They learnt that a crime had been committed by the 43-year-old man who was currently at his hometown in Satara. Charkop police then took the help of their counterparts in Satara and tracked him down. On questioning, the accused said that he had kept the stolen vault at a relative’s home. Police searched the relative’s house and recovered the vault with all the gold jewellery intact. On further questioning, it was learnt that the 36-year-old homemaker acquainted with him, lived in the same neighbourhood as the complainant.
