Ghaziabad: The body of a 28-year-old man, who had been missing since April 14, was found in Dabar pond in Ankur Vihar on Thursday. During the search operation, a 35-year-old diver also drowned, and his body was recovered later in the evening.Police identified the deceased as Mohd Sadan, a resident of Ankur Vihar. Police said he had four cases registered against him, including cases of theft and snatching.According to Sadan’s father, he had left home on April 14 without informing the family. When he did not return for several days, relatives began searching for him. A missing person’s complaint was filed at Ankur Vihar police station on April 21.On Wednesday evening, the family was informed that a shirt resembling Sadan’s had been found near the pond. After confirming it belonged to him, they alerted the police, following which a search operation was launched. The body could not be located that day.On Thursday morning, six divers were deployed to search the pond. Sartaz, a resident of Delhi, was among the divers engaged to locate the body. Around 1pm, Sadan’s decomposed body was recovered, but Sartaz went missing.

DCP (rural) Surendra Nath Tiwari said Sartaz’s body was recovered around 6pm with the help of other divers. “Preliminary findings suggest the diver got entangled in waste and grass in the pond and could not come out,” he said.Police said Sadan had a history of substance abuse, and some eyewitnesses claimed he had entered the pond after consuming drugs. His body has been sent for autopsy, and further details are awaited. No complaint has been filed in the matter so far.Family members of Sartaz said he was an experienced swimmer who had previously assisted in rescue operations and helped save lives.Three days earlier, a six-year-old child had drowned in the same pond. Police said the child entered the pond while chasing a kite.
