Pune: A morning runner, Uday Shashikant Birmal (38), sustained injuries after an autorickshaw hit him from behind on the DP road in Erandwane around 7.40 am on Sunday.Birmal’s friend Vijay Manjarekar (32) of Sinhagad Road lodged a complaint with the Alankar police later in the evening.Alankar police said that Birmal, a resident of Kothrud, is a fitness expert and runs long distances.According to the police officer, “Birmal and his two friends were running on the DP road. They were running towards Mhatre Bridge from Rajaram Bridge. At this moment, an autorickshaw driver hit Birmal from behind. The autorickshaw driver did not halt at the spot or help the injured person. It sped away. The victim sustained serious head injuries”Police are studying the footage of the various CCTV cameras of the area to ascertain the registration number of the autorickshaw involved in the accident.
