8-month-old killed, 16 hurt as bus overturns while avoiding cow

Jaipur: An eight-month-old infant was killed and 16 passengers were injured after a private bus travelling from Jodhpur to Ludhiana overturned as the driver allegedly tried to avoid hitting a cow on a highway in Bikaner district late Sunday night. Police identified the deceased as Madhav, eight months old boy. Sixteen passengers were injured in the accident, with 14 of them were referred to PBM Hospital, Bikaner after initial treatment due to the severity of their injuries.The accident occurred near Vishwakarma Market on NH-62 in the Lunkaransar area. According to police, the bus went out of control and overturned after a cow suddenly strayed onto the highway, prompting the driver to swerve. Hearing the cries of the passengers, local residents rushed to the spot and helped rescue those trapped inside the overturned bus. The Lunkaransar police team reached the scene with a police team and supervised the rescue operation.The injured were shifted to the Lunkaransar sub-district hospital with the help of ambulances and local residents. The infant succumbed to injuries, and the body was kept in the hospital mortuary.Police later used a crane to remove the overturned bus from the highway and restore traffic. Further investigation into the case is on.
