NEW DELHI: The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) on Monday alleged that internet services had been shut down in parts of Delhi amid its “Chalo Sansad” march.The party claimed the move was aimed at preventing updates from reaching the public as thousands gathered near Jantar Mantar for the protest.In a post from its official X handle, the party said it was unable to share updates from the ground because of the alleged disruption.“If you’re wondering why we are unable to share more updates from the ground – the cowardly authorities have shut down internet services in parts of the city,” the post said.It further added, “You can shut down the internet, but how will you close the eyes and ears of the protesters who will see and report to the world what’s going on in Delhi?”Another post read, “We are receiving widespread reports that internet services have been shut down in parts of Delhi. We are doing our best to keep you all informed. Please maintain peace at all times in this challenging time.”The party’s claims came amid heightened security across central Delhi as supporters attempted to march towards Parliament despite prohibitory orders in force.Police and Rapid Action Force (RAF) personnel were deployed in large numbers around Jantar Mantar and Parliament Street, where clashes broke out after protesters attempted to breach barricades.Delhi Police had earlier said no permission had been granted for the proposed Parliament march and maintained that prohibitory orders remained in force in the New Delhi district.There was no immediate official response from the Delhi Police or the government to the CJP’s allegations regarding an internet shutdown.
