Jaipur: Residents of Walled City, already grappling with overflowing sewers and poor drainage, are now facing fresh hardship as a road at Jadiyo Ka Rasta near Chaura Rasta has remained dug up for nearly six weeks after drainage work, making movement difficult during the monsoon. The road was excavated to lay new drains and the drainage work has since been completed. However, the stretch has not been restored, leaving it muddy, uneven and slippery. Residents, commuters and shopkeepers say the damaged road has become a daily hazard, particularly for the elderly, while affecting access to homes and businesses. The delay comes despite official directions to avoid road excavation during the rainy season. Locals say the incomplete work has worsened congestion in the already narrow lane.Former councillor Arvind Methi said the road was rebuilt around three years ago and required drainage upgrades, but alleged that it has been left dug up for over a month and a half. “Barricades have been put up and the area has been left in a poor condition,” he said.Resident Mahesh Soni said the road becomes slippery during rains, making it unsafe for pedestrians, especially senior citizens.Shopkeeper Ramesh Agrawal said, “Customers are avoiding the lane because of the damaged road, affecting business.”Another resident, Seema Maheshwari, said, “The district collector had directed that road digging be avoided during the monsoon and urged authorities to restore the stretch without delay.”Residents have appealed to civic authorities to repair the road immediately, saying the unfinished work has compounded the Walled City’s long-standing civic problems.
