DCA busts unlicensed shop, seizes meds worth Rs 18,000

Hyderabad: Officers of the Telangana Drugs Control Administration (DCA) raided an unlicensed medical outlet in Chandrayangutta and seized medicines worth Rs 18,000 that were being illegally stocked and sold without a valid drug licence.The raid was carried out based on credible information about the illegal sale of medicines. During the inspection, DCA officials found that Aslam Bin Salam Bajaber was stocking and selling medicines, including 11 varieties of antibiotics and other drugs, from premises in Chandrayangutta without obtaining the mandatory drug licence.Samples of the seized medicines have been sent for analysis, and further investigation is underway. Officials said legal action will be initiated against those found violating the Drugs and Cosmetics Act.Warning wholesalers and dealers against supplying medicines to unlicensed entities, a DCA official said they are liable for prosecution under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act.“We reiterate that stocking medicines for sale without a valid drug licence is a punishable offence carrying imprisonment of up to five years. We also urge the public to report illegal drug-related activities through our toll-free helpline,” the official said.
