Varanasi: Mau Police on Saturday arrested one accused in connection with the alleged rape of two minor sisters and the death of one of them in the Ranipur police station area. A search has been launched to arrest the second accused.According to police, the incident took place on June 8. The two sisters, aged 16 and 13, were seen speaking to two young men in an orchard near their home. Their father noticed them and asked them to return home, after which the girls left the spot. The accused allegedly intercepted the sisters and took them towards a forested area. In her statement, the younger sister claimed they were allegedly given something to eat, after which they lost conscious.The next morning, the younger girl returned home and allegedly informed her family about the incident. When family members reached the location, they found the elder sister’s body hanging from a tree.ASP Anoop Kumar said the girls had allegedly left home after being scolded by their father, who had seen the elder girl speaking to her boyfriend.According to police, the elder girl used a passerby’s phone to call her boyfriend, who reached the spot with another youth. Police said that the two girls were sexually assaulted by the duo, who fled after the incident.Police said a case has been registered in connection with the matter. The younger girl was taken for a medical examination and her statement was recorded before a magistrate. Based on her statement, two accused were identified and one was arrested. Teams have been formed to trace and arrest the other accused.
