Chandigarh: On Saturday, a day after the Prime Minister inaugurated the Advanced Mother and Child Centre at PGI, doctors, nurses, and supporting staff from the neonatology and gynecology departments shifted the first batch of patients from the Nehru Hospital building to the newly inaugurated facility. The patients, who were transferred into the postnatal ward, comprised clinically stable mother-baby pairs. To ensure safety during transport and stay in the new building, doctors planned to move the most stable patients first, followed by those requiring higher levels of care.A total of 10 patients — five mothers and five babies — were shifted by a dedicated ambulance on Monday morning. The process followed a standard operating procedure, with teams handling each stage — moving patients to the ambulance, accompanying them during transit, and receiving them at the new centre. Their medical records were seamlessly updated in the hospital system, ensuring uninterrupted diet and care. The first patients to be shifted were Amandeep Kainth and her baby. Amandeep expressed happiness at being the first patient in the new centre, inaugurated just a day earlier by the Prime Minister. Coincidentally, it was also her birthday, which doctors and nurses celebrated with a party in which staff and other patients joined. The neonatology unit gifted clothes to each of the first five babies transferred.
