DCA raids quack’s clinic, seizes medicines

Hyderabad: The Telangana Drugs Control Administration (DCA) recently raided a quack’s clinic in Khammam and seized 11 varieties of medicines worth around Rs 10,000 that were allegedly stocked illegally for sale. The raid was conducted following credible information against Shaik Ameer in Burda Raghavapuram village of Enkoor mandal, where he was found practising medicine without the required qualifications.Officials said that during inspection, several antibiotics were found among the seized medicines. They cautioned that the indiscriminate sale of such medicines by unqualified practitioners could contribute to antimicrobial resistance, posing a threat to public health. Samples of the medicines have been sent for laboratory analysis, while further investigation is underway. Legal action will be initiated against those found violating provisions of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, officials said.“It is a warning for wholesalers and dealers against supplying medicines to quacks, unlicensed shops or other unauthorised persons. Stocking or selling drugs without a valid licence is a punishable offence that carries imprisonment of up to five years. We urge the public to report illegal drug-related activities through its toll-free helpline,” an official said.
