Hyderabad: A 35-year-old woman and her daughter drowned in an agricultural well in Kothapalli village of Shankarpally mandal in Rangareddy district on Thursday night. The woman’s son, who was also pushed into the well, had a lucky escape.According to the Shankarpally police, Vasantha and Sudhakar were married several years ago. They had moved to Kothapalli from Yaral more than 10 years ago in search of a livelihood. The couple frequently quarrelled as Vasantha often objected to Sudhakar’s behaviour when he was intoxicated. On Thursday night, the couple had another quarrel. Later, Vasantha took her two children — Navya, 15, and Venu — to an agricultural well, wherein she allegedly pushed them into it before jumping in herself. Venu managed to hold on to a tree branch near the open well. While Vasantha and Navya drowned, the minor boy cried out for help. Meanwhile, Sudhakar, who discovered that his family members were missing from the house, began searching for them. Eventually, he found the footwear of the three near the agricultural well and heard his son’s cries for help. He rescued the boy and alerted villagers, who in turn informed the police. Local swimmers were pressed into service to retrieve the bodies.
