Varanasi: A 48-year-old widow was critically injured after an unidentified man allegedly stabbed her multiple times inside her house in Azamgarh’s Powai police station area late Thursday night, police said.The victim– Durgawati– was alone at home when the incident occurred around 10 pm. According to police, the main door of the house was locked from inside when the attacker allegedly entered and assaulted her with a knife, inflicting multiple injuries to her neck and hands.Hearing her screams, neighbours rushed to the house but were unable to enter as the door was locked from inside. After being alerted, police reached the spot and, with the help of locals, opened the door.Durgawati was found lying in a pool of blood on the second floor of the house. She was immediately rushed to a hospital, where she remains under treatment. Her condition is stated to be critical.Police said Durgawati works at a private hospital in the local market.Senior police officials inspected the crime scene and collected evidence. CCTV footage from nearby cameras is being examined to identify the attacker and ascertain how he gained entry into the house, police added.
