KOLKATA: The search for 15-year-old Damayanti Sen, a national-level shooter and a resident of Umacharan Bhattacharya Lane, entered its second day on Friday, with police intensifying efforts after CCTV footage showed her at Howrah railway station shortly after she left home.According to police, Damayanti was last seen around 10am on Thursday at platforms 4 and 5 of Howrah station, about 2.5km from her house. She had left home around 9am carrying only a small amount of cash and had left her mobile phone behind, making it difficult for investigators to track her movements.Howrah City Police said on Wednesday night that four teams had been formed to trace her and were being dispatched to various districts and neighbouring states.“A separate investigation is also being carried out by Howrah City Police’s detective department,” a senior police officer said.The Howrah Government Railway Police (GRP) and the Detective Department of Howrah City Police are jointly investigating the disappearance.Investigators have circulated Damayanti’s photograph to police stations across several districts and are examining CCTV footage from railway stations and other public places to reconstruct her movements.Police said preliminary investigation suggested that Damayanti may have boarded either an Arambagh or a Bardhaman local train that departed from platforms 4 or 5 shortly after she was seen there.Incidentally, the clothes Damayanti was seen wearing in the CCTV footage differed from the description initially provided by her father.Meanwhile, Indranil Khan, minister of state for sports and youth affairs, met Damayanti’s father, Dhruvajyoti Sen, and assured the family of all possible assistance.Damayanti’s parents have also launched an online campaign, circulating her photographs on social media in an appeal for information. According to the family, she was wearing a pink outfit with a white dupatta when she left home.As the search continued, her distraught parents appealed to anyone with information about her whereabouts to immediately contact the nearest police station.
