PUNE: A court in Maharashtra’s Pune district on Thursday extended the judicial custody of Siya Goyal and her alleged lover, Chetan Chaudhary, by another 14 days in connection with the murder of 25-year-old realtor Ketan Agarwal. The duo will stay in jail till July 29. Judicial Magistrate (First Class) A M Vibhute passed the order after both accused appeared before the court through video conference from prison. During the hearing, Chaudhary’s lawyer, Radhikesh Uttarwar, filed two applications — one seeking to declare his client’s arrest illegal and another requesting that CCTV footage of the entry and exit points of the Pune Rural superintendent of police’s office be preserved. According to the defence, Chaudhary was brought to the SP office around 12 hours before the first information report (FIR) was officially registered, making his arrest illegal. The court rejected the plea seeking to declare the arrest illegal but allowed the request to preserve the CCTV footage. “The court rejected the first plea (to declare the arrest illegal) but directed that the CCTV footage should be preserved,” Advocate Uttarwar told reporters. Goyal, 20, and Chaudhary, 22, are accused of pushing Goyal’s fiancé, Ketan Agarwal, off a cliff at Lohagad Fort during a trek on June 18, allegedly causing his death.
