MC sets up tax camps as Panchkula property tax recovery lags
Tax camps set up in Pkl ahead of Aug 31 deadline

Panchkula: With property tax collections falling short of expectations, the municipal corporation (MC) Panchkula has launched Property Tax Facilitation and Rectification Camps across wards and sectors to help defaulters clear dues before the revised deadline of August 31.The camps, which began Thursday, have been set up at community centres and MC offices. Residents can avail assistance for self-certification of property details, correction of records, updating ownership and mobile numbers, verification of outstanding dues and payment of property tax.Property owners are required to complete self-certification through the Property Tax Dues Payment and No Dues Certificate Management System portal, with MC officials and property tax staff available to provide support. The civic body had earlier offered a 100% interest waiver on pending dues if payments were made by June 30. However, it managed to recover only Rs 5.92 crore by the deadline, prompting an extension of the scheme till Aug 31.Official figures show Panchkula has 1,04,631 properties, but only 44,002 (42.05%) have completed self-certification so far. The MC has also identified property tax arrears of Rs 37.68 crore from 697 properties with dues exceeding Rs 2 lakh each.Of the total outstanding amount, Rs 25.95 crore is owed by private properties and Rs 11.73 crore by govt properties.Under the revised scheme, taxpayers can avail a one-time waiver of 75% interest on pending property tax arrears for the period 2010-11 to 2024-25 if dues are cleared by Aug 31, 2026.Officials warned that property owners failing to take advantage of the scheme could face recovery proceedings under the Haryana Municipal Act, 1994, along with other legal action.BOX | Property tax dues at a glanceTotal properties: 1,04,631Self-certified properties: 44,002 (42.05%)Amount recovered till June 30: ₹5.92 croreArrears from 697 major defaulters: ₹37.68 croreDues from private properties: ₹25.95 croreDues from govt properties: ₹11.73 croreInterest-waiver scheme extended till: Aug 31, 2026
