New Delhi: A three-year-old girl who had gone missing from south west Delhi’s Kapashera was allegedly kidnapped and murdered by her neighbour, police said Thursday.The accused was arrested following a brief encounter during which he sustained a bullet injury to his leg after allegedly opening fire at the police team.Police received information about the child’s disappearance on July 10, following which a kidnapping case was registered. During the early hours of Wednesday, the information was received about the recovery of child’s body from a drain near a college.A crime team was called to the spot, and the post-mortem examination confirmed that the child was murdered before her body was dumped in the drain. Autopsy report is awaited to assertain if she was sexually assaulted.During the investigation, CCTV footage has been analysed and identified the suspect. A country-made pistol and a live cartridge were recovered from his possession.During preliminary interrogation, he allegedly confessed to kidnapping and murdering the girl. Investigation revealed that he lived in the same building as the victim and was her neighbour. He was shifted to a hospital for treatment after his arrest.
