Pune: Cybercriminals duped a Hadapsar-based private engineering company of Rs 25.40 lakh by using a spoofed email on April 6. The company’s director on Tuesday lodged a complaint with the Wanowrie police.An officer from the Wanowrie police said that the complainant is the director of an engineering company located at Hadapsar. On April 6, the company received an email from one of its suppliers from the US stating that the company’s bank details changed. The company was requested to make payment to a new bank account number.“The company’s employees from the accounts department did not suspect anything and transferred Rs 25.40 lakh to the new bank account number mentioned in the email,” the officer said.He said that when they contacted the US-based company for confirmation, they came to know that the company’s account number had not changed and the email was fake.“The company’s director then approached the police and lodged a complaint. We have sought the details of the transactions from the bank. Our investigations are on,” he said.
