Hyderabad: Telangana chief minister A Revanth Reddy on Wednesday urged Amazon to deepen its presence in Telangana and set an investment target of Rs 1 lakh crore by 2034, as Amazon Web Services broke ground for a new hyperscale data centre at Bharat Future City.Amazon has already committed Rs 60,000 crore over the next 10 years for data centre infrastructure in Telangana. The company has been allotted 202 acres in Bharat Future City for what is being described as one of the country’s largest hyperscale data centres, apart from 98 acres in Chandanvelly for another data centre project.Addressing the groundbreaking ceremony, Reddy said Amazon’s expansion would give a major boost to the state govt’s flagship Bharat Future City project and help attract global technology companies, industries and allied investments. He said the data centre would accelerate infrastructure development, employment generation and economic activity in the proposed urban hub.The chief minister said Telangana was positioning Bharat Future City as a key growth engine under the “Telangana Rising-2047” vision, aimed at making the state a $1 trillion economy by 2034 and a $3 trillion economy by 2047. He said the govt wanted Telangana’s share in India’s GDP to rise from the present 5% to 10%, in line with the national goal of building a $30 trillion economy by 2047.Reddy said the state had mapped development into CURE, PURE and RARE zones to ensure balanced growth. Policies were being framed for industry, tourism, energy, health and sports, while a dedicated mechanism would monitor major investments. He said a special monthly review meeting would be held on Amazon’s projects.Assuring full support to investors, the chief minister said the govt would provide infrastructure, facilities and timely clearances. He said Hyderabad had already emerged as a global model with the Outer Ring Road, international airport, IT sector and pharma ecosystem, but the next phase would focus on jobs, clean mobility and sustainable urban growth.AWS said the Hyderabad expansion was part of Amazon’s recently announced $48 billion investment plan for India, including more than $21 billion for cloud and artificial intelligence infrastructure between 2026 and 2030. By the end of 2025, Amazon said it invested more than $1.3 billion in cloud infrastructure in the AWS Asia Pacific Hyderabad Region.Anurag Khilnani, AWS Director of Data Centre Delivery, said the company deepened its investment in sustainable cloud data centre operations in Telangana since launching AWS infrastructure in Hyderabad in 2022. He said the state govt’s support helped fast-track the building of India’s digital backbone.IT and Industries minister D Sridhar Babu said AWS’ expansion was an endorsement of Telangana’s ambition to become India’s AI and cloud capital.Amazon said its Data Centre Skilling Program trained 250 students in Telangana, including 51 from the latest cohort at Vardhaman Engineering College, and hired 110 of them into AWS data centre operations. AWS said it has trained more than 10 million people in India in cloud skills since 2017.
