Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh State Institute of Forensic Sciences (UPSIFS) on Wednesday organised a one-day workshop on “Quantum Computing” at its Lucknow campus, bringing policymakers, scientists, industry experts and students under one roof.The workshop highlighted the growing role of quantum technologies in cybersecurity, defence, finance and research. UPSIFS founding director G K Goswami described quantum computing as the beginning of a “new technological era,” adding that the institute has formally begun its “quantum journey.”Delivering the keynote address, chairman of the National Quantum Mission (NQM), Ajai Chowdhry, stressed the importance of indigenous technology. He warned that future wars would be driven by artificial intelligence, chips and drones, urging India to reduce reliance on foreign systems. He also noted that quantum computing is already transforming sectors like pharmaceuticals and banking through faster drug discovery and enhanced data security.Additional chief secretary (IT & Electronics) Alok Kumar outlined Uttar Pradesh’s deep-tech roadmap under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, including plans for a Deep Tech Hub in Noida-NCR, Rs 30–40 crore in startup funding, and allocations of Rs 225 crore for AI and Rs 100 crore for emerging tech research. He said India aims to achieve a 1,000-qubit milestone within 2–3 years.Experts, including Sandeep Shukla, emphasised quantum-safe cybersecurity, while industry leaders like Rajan Luthra of Reliance Industries Limited called for greater quantum literacy. A panel discussion also showcased innovation trends and deep-tech solutions.
