Road rage attacks leave two injured in Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad: Two separate road rage incidents in the city left two people injured and a car damaged, with three FIRs registered at Sarkhej and Vadaj police stations.In the complaints filed at Sarkhej police station, a minor traffic dispute between a motorcyclist and an autorickshaw driver escalated into an assault involving sticks and fists near Janpath Hotel on Sarkhej-Dholka Road.According to a complaint filed by a 28-year-old private company employee from Sanand, he was returning home on his motorcycle around 8pm when an autorickshaw allegedly cut across the road. After he asked the driver to be careful, an argument broke out. The motorcyclist alleged that the 53-year-old autorickshaw driver attacked him with a stick. He further claimed that three unidentified men who arrived on a scooter joined the assault before traffic police and bystanders intervened.The autorickshaw driver lodged a counter-complaint, claiming the motorcyclist had stopped his vehicle, abused him and assaulted him after a dispute over the right of way. He said he was carrying three schoolchildren from tuition classes when the incident occurred. Police have registered cross FIRs and are verifying the sequence of events through witness statements and CCTV footage.In another road rage case registered with Vadaj police, a 33-year-old juice centre owner alleged that a dispute over a motorcycle blocking the road on July 7 turned violent. He claimed that four men chased his friend’s car before intercepting it near a school in Vadaj.The accused allegedly smashed the vehicle’s windscreen and headlights with wooden sticks, causing an estimated loss of Rs 50,000.The complainant also alleged that he was assaulted with sticks and sustained fractures to his jaw and left elbow. After initial treatment at Civil Hospital in Asarwa, he underwent jaw surgery at a private hospital.
