Surat: The district administration has disbursed Rs 11.29 crore in financial assistance to 50,227 flood-affected people across six talukas of Surat as part of the relief package announced for families hit by last week’s floods.On Tuesday alone, 8,222 beneficiaries received over Rs 1.35 crore towards cash doles and compensation for household goods damaged in the deluge.Till Tuesday evening, 33,710 people received around Rs 3 crore as cash doles. Udhna accounted for the highest disbursal, with 14,842 beneficiaries receiving over Rs 1.33 crore, followed by Puna, where 11,159 people were paid around Rs 1 crore. Majura recorded 4,462 beneficiaries receiving Rs 40.15 lakh, Katargam 1,857 beneficiaries receiving Rs 16.71 lakh, Abrama 1,128 beneficiaries, and Adajan 232 beneficiaries receiving about Rs 2 lakh.The administration has also paid Rs 8.25 crore as compensation for household goods to 16,571 affected families. Udhna again accounted for the largest share, with 7,436 families receiving Rs 3.71 crore, followed by 5,329 families in Puna receiving Rs 2.66 crore. Assistance was also provided to 2,102 families in Majura (Rs 1 crore), 888 families in Katargam (Rs 44.40 lakh), 646 families in Abrama (Rs 32.30 lakh), and 116 families in Adajan (Rs 5.80 lakh).Officials said damage assessment surveys are continuing in the remaining affected areas to identify more beneficiaries for relief.
