Chennai: TVK on Wednesday sacked its Chengalpet east district joint secretary N V Veera alias Veerasamy from the party in the wake of allegations that he received money as bribe. Veera, who was the president of Mambakkam panchayat union in Chengalpet district, refuted the charges. Later in the night, he was picked up by police for inquiry.TVK Chengalpet district secretary C V Dhinakaran issued a statement that Veera was removed from the party membership since he acted against the party’s interests. The action came in the wake of video which surfaced on social media where Veera was seen receiving cash from a person, purportedly a contractor. In addition, screenshots of purported online transfer of money to Veera also surfaced, accusing the panchayat president of receiving the money as bribe for contracts. After the video went viral, Veera denied the charges. Speaking to reporters in Mambakkam, he said the money he was receiving in the video was not a bribe. Veera claimed that he had lent money to the contractor and that it was being returned to him.“The contractor was repaying the money he had borrowed from me. Would anyone receive bribe in their own office or via online payment? Corruption charges are being levelled against me to defame TVK and our chief minister,” Veera said.He said that contractor could have lodged a complaint with DVAC if the allegations were genuine, but he released a video levelling corruption charges only to tarnish his image.
