Times News NetworkChennai: National Alliance of Anti-nuclear Movements coordinator S P Udayakumar on Wednesday urged the Union govt to investigate the alleged leak of files related to the Kudankulam nuclear power plant and take measures to protect the safety and interests of people living near the plant.“The govt should stall privatisation of the nuclear industry and begin phasing out the nuclear power sector, which provides hardly 3% of electricity to the national grid,” he said. His remarks came after a ransomware group reportedly published hundreds of files linked to the Kudankulam plant. Around 19,000 files are said to be highly sensitive.Udayakumar referred to a May 2026 Delhi high court judgment in a case involving Nuclear Power Corporation of India. The court held that the safety analysis report of units I and II of the Kudankulam plant was exempt from disclosure under the Right to Information Act.Expressing shock over the alleged leak, Poovulagin Nanbargal, a Chennai-based environment organisation, said Union govt should give an explanation on the data breach. “We urge the Tamil Nadu govt to immediately approach Centre and seek an explanation to allay the fears of the people,” the NGO said.EOM//
