KOLKATA: Trinamool neta Kailash Kumar Mishra, who contested the 2026 Assembly election from Bally, is facing fresh legal trouble after Kolkata Police registered an FIR against him on charges of extortion, criminal conspiracy and fraud. The case was lodged by Burrabazar Police Station under multiple provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) following a court order. Mishra, considered a close aide of Trinamool national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee, was recently arrested in connection with multiple complaints of alleged financial fraud and economic irregularities, particularly in Howrah. The latest FIR is based on a petition filed by 68-year-old Raju Agarwal. Police said Mishra, along with the director of a private firm and others, allegedly conspired to defraud the complainant in a deal dating back to Feb 2019.The accused allegedly persuaded Agarwal to enter into a sub-lease agreement for a 2,711 sq ft commercial property in Salt Lake’s Sector V and induced him to transfer substantial sums of money. They also allegedly convinced him to extend additional loans on the promise of early repayment. The alleged fraud surfaced when Agarwal sought possession of the property and found the accused had no legal rights over it. Police are expected to seek Mishra’s custody for further investigation into the case and his alleged links to other multi-crore financial crimes.
