MAHOBA: A man suffered grievous injuries after being attacked with an axe near a petrol pump in Uttar Pradesh’s Mahoba district on Tuesday, with both his hands severed at the wrists and multiple wounds inflicted on his head and leg, police said.The victim, identified as Vicky Thakur, son of Raja Babu Singh and a resident of Subhash Nagar under Kotwali police station limits, was initially rushed to the district hospital and later referred to a higher medical centre in Jhansi for advanced treatment.The incident, which took place near a petrol pump in Samad Nagar under the Kotwali Nagar police station area, has triggered outrage after a video of the aftermath went viral on social media.The footage shows Vicky lying on the road in a pool of blood as his mother breaks down beside him.She is seen tying his severed hands with a piece of cloth and wrapping another cloth around his head in an attempt to stop the bleeding.Passersby who spotted the injured man alerted the police.Additional superintendent of police Vandana Singh said the Kotwali Nagar police received information about the assault through the police response vehicle (PRV) and immediately rushed to the spot.“Acting promptly, the local police reached the scene and inspected the area.The injured man was taken to the district hospital and later referred to Jhansi for advanced treatment,” Singh said.According to the preliminary investigation, the attack appears to involve a person known to the victim.Police have taken the suspect into custody and are questioning him.The officer said police are in touch with the victim’s family to obtain a formal complaint, following which a case is being registered under the relevant sections of law.“All aspects and circumstances surrounding the incident are being thoroughly investigated.Police teams have been constituted and further legal proceedings are underway,” Singh added.(With PTI inputs)
