Youth killed as water tanker hits bike, driver held in Gurgaon

Gurgaon: A 22-year-old man was killed and his friend injured after a water tanker attached to a tractor allegedly rammed their motorcycle on Gurgaon-Pataudi Road on Monday.While Vicky Kumar, who suffered severe injuries, died at the spot, Mohit, who was riding with him, is undergoing treatment. His condition is stated to be stable. The impact of the collision threw both riders off the motorcycle. The rear vehicle of the tractor crushed Vicky and ran over him before coming to a halt and left the motorcycle damaged, police said.The driver of the STP water tanker, a native of Uttar Pradesh, was arrested soon after the accident that took place around 7.30am on the Wazirpur-Garhi Harsaru Road stretch near Signature Global. The vehicle was seized. “Mohit could not speak in a detailed manner. However, based on his statements, we have registered a case,” an officer said. The case was registered under Section 281 (rash driving) and 106 (death by negligence) at Sector 10A police station.Both Vicky, a resident of Bhurawas village in Rewari district, and Mohit worked in private companies in Faridabad. The duo used to stay for five days in Faridabad during the week and used to travel to their native village on weekends. “On Monday, they were returning to their work when the accident took place. The exact sequence of events is being analysed, and the driver is being interrogated,” the officer added.Preliminary investigation suggests that the motorcycle was travelling in its designated lane when the tanker struck it from the side. The tractor was transporting treated sewage water collected from residential societies to irrigate roadside plants. The body was sent for an autopsy before being handed over to the family.
