Bicholim: Police arrested two men in connection with the electrocution death of ITI student Akshat Naik (20) of Lamgao, Bicholim, on Tuesday. They were released after obtaining bail on Tuesday.Kedar Krishna Mandrekar (33), a lineman with the electricity department, and house owner Sameer Ramnath Maulingkar (41) from Maulinguem, were arrested by police.Naik was electrocuted on June 26 while assisting Mandrekar with electrical installation work at the newly constructed first floor of Maulingkar’s house at Harijanwada.Police said testing of the newly installed wiring was carried out by energising it through a temporary extension from the ground-floor connection, despite the first floor not having an authorised power connection.Police said Mandrekar undertook the work and testing, while Maulingkar permitted the work without ensuring adequate safety measures.A week after their son’s death, Naik’s parents lodged a police complaint alleging negligence by Mandrekar and Maulingkar. Further investigation is under way.
