Hyderabad: Chief minister A Revanth Reddy on Tuesday urged Union road transport and highways minister Nitin Gadkari to expedite the Union cabinet’s approval for commencement of works on the northern corridor of the Regional Ring Road (RRR). project at the earliest.Revanth met Gadkari at his residence in New Delhi and apprised him that 95% of the land acquisition for the project has been completed, and urged him to grant necessary approvals for the project’s southern corridor.“If work on both sections of RRR begins simultaneously, construction can be completed faster and costs could be reduced,” the chief minister said.Revanth appealed to the Union minister to expedite approvals for the greenfield highway connecting Hyderabad and Amaravati, the capital of Andhra Pradesh. The greenfield highway is one of the projects mandated under the AP Reorganisation Act, Revanth informed Gadkari.The chief minister told the Union minister that sanctioning a 12-lane highway from the upcoming Future City to Machilipatnam port (Bandar) via Amaravati would significantly reduce travel distance between Hyderabad and Vijayawada, besides boosting freight transport between Hyderabad and Bandar port.Revanth also requested Gadkari to facilitate forest department clearances for the Mannanur-Srisailam elevated corridor and informed him that the Nallamala sanctuary, Srisailam temple, and Srisailam reservoirs fall within the scope of this corridor.The chief minister also urged Gadkari to sanction a six-lane alternative highway from Mancherial to Hyderabad, serving as an alternative to the existing Rajiv Rahadari. He assured that the state govt would undertake the necessary land acquisition for this project, adding that the new highway would create fresh opportunities for agriculture and business.
